Akaroa is an attractive harbour situated in a volcanic crater within Banks Peninsula. It was historically a French fishing settlement, but now a center for dolphin and penguin viewing.

In Northern Otago, are the limestone concretions called the Moeraki Boulders. According to Maori legend they are the flotsam of an ancient wrecked canoe that formed the South Island of New Zealand

Hiking on the heights of Banks Penninsula, we encounter the appropriate Tiki of the Wind.

The beaches near Oamaru are home to blue penguins and the yellow-eyed penguins.

There are 4 million people in New Zealand and 44 million sheep.

 

Several areas of the west coast house seal colonies.
